The required number of credits for a completed laboratory section of Chemistry 3P30 is eight (8).  They can be earned by performing six (6) microscale and one micro/macroscale experiment.  The microscale experiments that can be chosen from for the term are as follows:

    8   1 credit
    9A   1 credit
    11   1 credit
    13   1 credit
    15   1 credit
    17   1 credit
    18   1 credit

Micro/macroscale experiments to chose from will be named later in the term and each is worth 2 credits.  A list of preferred experiments must be e-Mailed to js94cx@badger.ac.BrockU.CA by Noon Monday, September 15 for scheduling of experiments for the term.

Before each lab, students must enter into their lab note book the believed Purpose of the experiment (a sentence or two);  a brief Introduction to the experiment (about half a page); and the required Safety information for the chemicals to be used during the lab.  In lab, one must make detailed Observations and list thoroughly all the Chemicals Used.  Note books must have be dated by entry, and books must have tables of contents.  They will be inspected on occasion during term, and marked at the end of term.

Lab reports will be handed in on loose leaf paper.  They are to be typed or neatly written.  The report format will be as follows:  an Abstract containing major points about the experiment (about three to four lines in length);  an Experimental section containing references to the lab note book;  % Yield Calculation;  a Characterization portion that contains tables and analysis of spectra and physical/chemical properties of the product; a Discussion that is open ended, but comments on the major points of the experiments; and finally the a Reference area.
