MSc Positions in Biophysical and Physical Chemistry

Two positions are available starting in August 1999 for candidates seeking an MSc degree in Chemistry.  Both projects will involve studying light induced  energy and electron transfer reactions in photoactive proteins and model complexes using time resolved electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). Click on the following links to get more information about the projects and the techniques involved:

Structure-function relationships in photosynthetic reaction centres

Energy transfer in coupled porphyrin systems containing paramagnetic metals.

Time resolved EPR spectroscopy

Applicants should have an interest in biophysical techniques and/or photochemistry and should have taken undergraduate courses in magnetic resonance (NMR, EPR). Above all candidates should be interested in doing interdisciplinary research involving aspects of biochemistry, photochemistry and spectroscopy.

Brock University sits atop the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Lake Ontario and the city of  St. Catharines, Ontario which enjoys one of the mildest climates in Canada.  The surrounding Niagara Peninsula is one of the premier wine producing regions in North America and  we have easy access to the major centres of Toronto and Buffalo without the high cost of living, traffic jams and crime of a big city.
