Hartman: Research Interests
Applications of multinuclear
high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to inorganic
solids, including silicon carbide, sol-gel-based ceramic materials,
and natural and synthetic minerals, with emphasis on impurity and surface
effects on spin lattice relaxation.
Synthesis, displacement reactions,
and NMR and FAB-MS studies of fluoroboron cations D2BF2+, D2BFCl+, D2BFBr+,
and D3BF2+, where D can be various electron pair donor species. Recent
studies have emphasized fluoroboron cations with chelating donors, e.g.
(DD)BF2+, and have explored the strong preference for five-membered over
six-membered chelate ring formation.
